April 8, 2003 - I arrived home after six days in Illinois and Iowa to find that an ice storm had caused major damage in the neighborhood. The good news - Although the power had been out for nearly four days, it had come back on shortly before I returned. The bad news - My two maple trees were coated with ice and around two dozen large limbs had fallen into the back yard. Fortunately, most of them missed the house; one, however, punched a hole through the roof and suspended ceiling of the sun room.

April 10 - My neighbor helped me get some broken
limbs out of the trees and then I spent several hours
cutting up and stacking the branches

The trees are going to look a little
bald this summer

April 15, 2003 - The mess has been cleaned up,
resulting in 26 bundles of small branches, 2 yard
waste bags of twigs and enough firewood to last me
a long, long time (everything above the fourth level
is courtesy of the storm).
