The first day of summer. Here are some things that occurred during the Spring.

A pair of mallards decided to set
up housekeeping in my roses.
Pop strutted around for the first day
and then disappeared.

Mom was gone during the day for
a week or so, but returned at night.
I counted eight eggs in the nest,
but I think that there were more.
Finally, mom sat for the better part
of two weeks...
...until she was "sprayed" by this
character and forced to abandon
the nest.
There were lots of birds, like this
bluejay, at the feeder
And a mother squirrel managed to
get in there as well.
Her little ones preferred the safety
of the ground while eating.

A couple of my rose bushes have
"gone wild." They produced nothing
last year ...
... but they had plenty of roses
this year. Good thing I didn't yank
them out last Fall.
