Stjepan (Steven) Miletich arrived in the United States from Croatia in 1903 to seek a better life. He didn't speak English, but somehow managed to make his way to Albia, Iowa where he found work in the deep-shaft coal mines. He later sent for Kata (Katherine), his bride-to-be, and together they raised ten children: Frank, Mary (my mother), Lee, John, Ann, Milton, Helen, Steve, Fred and Bob. In the mid-1980s, Aunt Ann decided that regular reunions were in order, so we came to Albia in August, approximately every other year, until 2003 to renew our family bonds, share some hearty laughs and maybe shed a few tears. Grandpa, Grandma, Mom, Dad and all of the aunts and uncles are gone now so we, their descendants, gathered together ten years later at Lake Rathbun in Iowa, near Albia, in August.

Sharon and Jim did a fantastic job of arranging
and managing the event

We came from all over. Tom and Ann drove from
Alaska and camped about a mile from the event
,
arriving a couple of days early

I was in the site next to them, also arriving early

We took over the entire Grey Goose Inn,
inside and out

Labeled coolers were provided for drinks, both
alcoholic and soft

An assortment of hard liquors was available as well.
Let the party begin!

I drove past this deer at the campground on day 2
