Joe McClellan took the following photos on Sunday, 11/28/10.
In an email, sent on
November 29th to several 1961 grads, Joe wrote: "Ann and I attended mass at the Cathedral of ST Anthony yesterday. Exceptional experience. Inside looks almost the same as when we left. A lot of volunteers worked and are still working to bring the church into this condition. Church is reopening with big plans. Redoing the church and rectory the way it was. Plus planning on reopening school. There is a bishop Car Karodiz who created a non profit company to purchase the buildings from the Archdiocese of Detroit. Archdiocese of Detroit would not sell church directly to the bishop? Church will be no denominational. Not affiliated with archdiocese of Detroit. Bishop Karodiz was ordained in Austria in 1986. He has worked in Cuba, Sir Lanka, Kenya, Costa Rico and Miami. He works in run down neighborhoods opening an old church and building. A very impressive priest and speaker. Have you heard of him? "Mass is scheduled for 11:00a.m. every Sunday. We are going to attend next week. Attend if you can. Volunteer if you can. Donate if you can. "Mail checks to: (12/18/10 - The archdiocese wasn't able to give us any information on the Cathedral or the Bishop. They do not appear to be associated with Roman Catholicism.) (3/26/11 - Here's a link to the Cathedral's web site where you'll find more information and additional photos:) http://www.cathedralofstanthonydetroit.org/ |
Of the old playground, Joe writes, "Plan is to have neighbors grow gardens on this land next year. Apparently the neighbors are protecting the church and call the police plus someone from the Bishops team when someone is trying to damage anything. Good people live everywhere!" |
