We started with lunch at Miss Mary Bobo's Boarding House. The meal was served
family-style and we were joined by a hostess, Mary Kathryn Holt, who gave
us the history of the house and its most famous resident from the past,
Jack Daniel.
The town's largest employer is the Jack Daniel's distillery. There are millions of
gallons of whiskey aging in the warehouses, but they serve lemonade at the end of
the tour because the distillery is in a dry county.
The fermentation vats are 25 feet deep. We were encouraged to stick a finger in
the fermenting mash. Do you suppose that improves the flavor?

There was a little wait outside before we were seated, but it was worth it.
Charcoal, used to filter the whiskey, is made on site in huge outdoor furnaces.
On the way back, we stopped for a quick shot of Dolly Parton's house, which is not
too far from Marge's and Mike's.

An afternoon was spent sightseeing
in Lynchburg.
This building was a focal point in Lynchburg.
The facility wasn't running while we were there, but we still had a chance to see
where the distillation processes took place.
This is yours truly in my new Jack Daniel's cap.
